High Court Cracks Down on Bangladesh Railway
The High Court of Bangladesh has taken a firm stance against the mismanagement, ticket scalping, and unsafe practice of passengers traveling on the roofs of trains by Bangladesh Railway. Justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Khizir Hayat of the HC bench have expressed grave concerns over these issues, highlighting the need for immediate action to address the situation.
During a recent suo moto proceedings, the HC bench directly addressed railway officials, questioning the rampant mismanagement within the rail services. The court demanded answers as to why ticket scalping was allowed to persist and why passengers were risking their lives by traveling on the roofs of trains. This reckless behavior poses a significant danger not only to passengers but also to the overall safety of the railway system.
Call for Accountability and Action
The HC bench emphasized that such negligence and corruption within the railway system cannot be tolerated. They urged the railway officials to take decisive steps to prevent passengers from risking their lives by traveling on the roofs of trains. By allowing this practice to continue, officials are not only condoning corruption but also putting lives at risk, leading to potential accidents and tragedies.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik informed the court that the railway authorities have initiated a committee to investigate the mismanagement within the services. This move comes in response to a recent protest led by Dhaka University student Mohiuddin Roni, who demanded improvements in railway services to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers.
Ensuring Passenger Safety and Accountability
The HC bench has made it clear that silence and inaction are not options when it comes to addressing the critical issues plaguing Bangladesh Railway. They have called on officials to fulfill their duties responsibly and take immediate action to rectify the situation. The safety and security of passengers should be the top priority, and any form of negligence or corruption must be met with swift and decisive measures to ensure a safe and efficient railway system for all.
As the courts continue to hold the railway authorities accountable for their actions, it is crucial for all stakeholders to work together to address the systemic issues that have led to such dangerous practices. By advocating for change and taking decisive action, we can ensure that passengers are not only safe but also treated with the respect and dignity they deserve when using public transportation services.
